Observe the child moving into stand and playing with a toy.
Place a toy on a low surface like a coffee table.
The child is gaining the ability to use graded or smooth gradual movements. She can move into kneel, then raise one knee, then push or pull up to stand.
Children learn to change positions by practicing. They practice because they like the experience or they want something that requires them to move up or down. Encourage adults to help children practice up and down movements by having a reason to move. For example, place tub toys on the floor by the tub and ask the child to put them in the tub before a bath. The child will squat, pick up a toy, stand up and drop the toys in the tub one at a time.
