Observe the child when she is dancing with the adult.
The adult can model standing on one foot as part of the dance.
The child will try to imitate the adult. She can balance on one foot for a second or two.
Dancing is a good way to help children develop balance, weight shifting, and rhythm for movement. Encourage early childhood educators and parents to incorporate fun movement activities into the day, such as walking on pillows, dancing with scarves, and doing “exercises” with adults.
