Walks upstairs and downstairs alone, both feet on a step

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child on the stairs.

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation needed.

Behavior Observed

The child wants to go up and down stairs independently, but both feet have to hit each step.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Stair climbing challenges the child to balance on one foot for a brief period of time. Encourage parents to let the child take on the stairs independently. This is a huge confidence builder for children.
