Observe the child in play with multiple toys of the same type (little cars, blocks, poker chips, etc.)
No elicitation needed.
The child arranges objects in different ways. Making long lines is particularly appealing.
Tell early childhood educators and parents that children learn about space by manipulating objects into horizontal and vertical spaces. Toys and household items are also fun to arrange. Lids, paper plates, etc. are also fun to line up.
