Spontaneously scribbles on paper or other surface

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child with paper and a crayon or marker.

Elicitation Strategy

The adult gives the child a paper and pencil, crayon, or marker.

Behavior Observed

The child spontaneously scribbles on the paper without a model. Uses whole arm and wrist to scribble.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage early childhood educators and parents to let children play with non-toxic markers and boards, doodle boards, crayons and paper and sidewalk chalk. Children like to scribble and make marks with stamps as well.
