Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the infant when she is playing near adults and siblings / others.

Elicitation Strategy

Initiate a game of peek-a-boo or other familiar game.

Behavior Observed

When adults initiate peek-a-boo the infant smiles and laughs and makes an effort to continue the game.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Game play with hands, feet, and other body parts provides pleasurable tactile input to infants. They begin to watch for and anticipate the next turn. Encourage early childhood educators and parents to include tactile games in many daily routines (e.g., blowing on the tummy during diapering, playing peek-a-boo when dressing, etc.)
