Cries differently for pain and hunger

Observe infant during daily routines.

Ask adults how they know what the child needs or feels.

Behavior Observed

Adults indicate that the infant has different types of cries to indicate needs.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage parents to listen to the infant’s different cries. Some parents may not understand that the infant’s cries may carry different meanings.
