Observe the child with a black and white patterned mobile, book, or picture cards.
Place the stimulus within the infant’s view (not further than 12 inches) and observe his eye movements.
The child’s eyes are drawn to the black and white pattern over other pattern options.
Use of black and white stimuli while the infant’s vision is developing helps him focus his attention. Acuity and color vision are refined in the first few months of life.
