Predicts what will happen next in an unknown story

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child during and after a story is read.

Elicitation Strategy

Ask, “What do you think is going to happen next?”

Behavior Observed

The child remembers and relates the sequence of events in a story, and uses logic to predict what she thinks will happen next.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

After reading a story, the adult can ask the child to review what happened in the story. When reading a new story, the adult can stop after several pages and ask, “What do you think will happen next?” The child should be able to connect actions to predict consequences.
