Names pictures in books

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child and adult looking at familiar and unfamiliar picture books.

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation needed.

Behavior Observed

The child points to and names items in the book.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

The child is becoming more interested in talking and labeling what she knows. Encourage early childhood educators and parents to read to the child often as books introduce new vocabulary words that may not be found in the child’s environment. This expands the child’s world and increases interest in learning about the world.
