Sustains interest in pictures for 2 to 5 minutes

Situations for Observation of Skill

Ask parents to share photos of the family or provide board books for the infant to examine.

Elicitation Strategy

Present the book or the pictures, one at a time, to the child.

Behavior Observed

Children are now becoming interested in the details in the pictures and point out familiar people, clothing, and other items they know. They examine the pictures for over 2 minutes.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Family pictures are especially interesting to young children. Parents often forget to share these with the infant. Encourage them to take a look at family pictures (whether on a phone, computer, or photograph) with the child. Books should be shared every day, as often as possible, with parents pointing out interesting aspects in the pictures on the pages.
