Pays attention to details of objects and people

Situations for Observation of Skill

Read a simple story book with the child.

Elicitation Strategy

Discuss the pictures and the details in the pictures. Ask questions about the details. For example, “Where is the baby’s blanket?”

Behavior Observed

The child points out details she wants the adult to see and also points out details the adult asks about. The child does this with books and in everyday activities in daily routines.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage parents to help their child notice details (snaps on pants, leaves on trees, crumbs on the floor, etc.) Noticing details is an important aspect of art appreciation.
