Provide play dough or use real cookie dough and different rollers, presses, and cookie cutters.

Elicitation Strategy

The adult can play with the child. Experiment with the tools and let the child create what he wants.

Behavior Observed

The child prefers using tools to just using his hands.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

As children become more adept with fine motor skills, they want to use tools in their play. Encourage parents to let children use safe household tools (spoons, tongs, spatulas, etc.) to explore and create.
