Situations for Observation of Skill

As part of an art activity look at many different works by the same artists.

Elicitation Strategy

Have children identify the key characteristics of each artist’s work. Give children a theme (e.g. children playing) and ask them to draw a piece of art like Picasso, Miro, Michelangelo, etc.

Behavior Observed

Children capture the essence of specific artists and can talk about the similarities and differences. They attempt to imitate an artistic style.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage children to try different genres, themes and styles of art. Experimentation with basic approaches leads to creative expansions.
