Observe the child in the classroom during daily activities.
No elicitation needed.
If it is a mixed-age classroom the child will interact with younger children with lower level language and expectations.
Explain to parents that children do best with classroom rules and expectations if they also have them at home. It is okay if the rules are different. Early childhood educators and parents should discuss with the child why home is different than school. Encourage play dates to build social skills.
