Watch the child during play with large and small objects of the same type, for instance, large and small dolls and doll clothing (particularly shoes), large and small trucks, and so on.

No elicitation is needed.

Places objects of different sizes together to compare them. May try to put the small doll shoes on the bigger doll just to see if she can.

Encourage parents to involve children in laundry folding. They can help find the big socks and little socks, big pants and little pants, etc. Experience comparing a variety of objects helps establish the concept of different measurements.
