Ask the parent to describe the child’s use of time terms, like tomorrow, tonight, etc.
“Let’s see if we can make tall and short cookies that will stand up.” Encourage the child to tell about the cookie she is making. Ask, “Shall we eat these tonight or last night?”
The child knows time referents.
Encourage parents to participate in dramatic play with the child as well as involve the child in daily routines. Involving the child in cooking is a great way to talk about comparisons, measurements, colors, shapes, and so on.
