Finds objects based on the location of landmarks (e.g., your hat is on the kitchen chair)

Situations for Observation of Skill

Use shape blocks during playtime. Place some different shaped blocks around the room on pieces of furniture.

Elicitation Strategy

As you are building ask the child to get the round block on the coffee table, the square block by the television, etc.

Behavior Observed

The child will be able to find objects based on the familiar locations.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage parents to help their child learn spatial understanding by using spatial vocabulary (on, under, beside) etc. and point out landmarks that will help children learn about the relationships of different aspects of their environment. For example, say “We are passing the church, so we are almost at Grandpa’s house.”
