Observe the parent and child in face-to-face interaction.

Behavior Observed

The child stares at the parent’s eyes and the edges of the face.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage parents to spend time holding the infant close (within 8-10 inches) and talk to him softly. Spending time in this manner ensures that the parent’s face and voice becomes familiar.
