Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child during play and daily routines.

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation needed.

Behavior Observed

The child likes to talk about what she sees, is doing, sees others doing, etc. Two-word combinations are now varied and communicates many relationships.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

This is a time for vocabulary growth, so the child wants to know what things are called and what is happening. Encourage early childhood educators and parents to talk to the child constantly, labeling and commenting on objects, people, and events with short simple sentences. Books introduce a broad range of vocabulary, so frequent book reading is important.
