Recognizes and names self, family, and friends in photos

Situations for Observation of Skill

Look at family photos.

Elicitation Strategy

Have the adult look at the photo book with the child. Tell him not to name the people in the pictures until after the child has an opportunity to identify the person. Let the child look at the picture, wait for her to point to and name the people. Then the adult can ask, “Who’s this?”

Behavior Observed

The child identifies family members and friends by name in photos.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage parents to keep a photo book for the child (note: FOR not OF). The photo book is of family members and friends, activities, the child’s special items, etc. The book will become a child’s favorite as he knows the people and the experiences. It provides a basis for conversation as well. The child will want to share it with visitors.
