Girls may withdraw from rough house play of boys

Observe the child in play with opposite gender peers. Have dress up clothes for both genders in the play area.

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation needed.

Behavior Observed

Boys may choose rowdy play with other boys. Girls may move away from this to quieter play.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Children of this age are identifying intentionally with their same gender parent. They are aware of gender differences and begin to select gender specific activities and clothing. Although both boys and girls may play with all types of toys, clothing is typically selected for their gender.
