Observe the child changing clothes. This allows observation of both undressing and dressing.
The adult provides a reason for the child to change clothes (e.g., to go somewhere later). Ask the child to first take off her shoes.
The child sits down and pulls off the shoes one at a time.
Early childhood educators and parents can encourage the child to help dress themselves. The child will like helping the adult find the head and arm holes, put shoes on and off, etc. Encourage the child to do as much dressing and undressing independently as she can.
