Observe the child in interaction with others during play.
Ask which one of these toys is yours? Which is mine/his/ hers? Can I (s/he) share your toy?
The child identifies the objects that belong to different people.
Encourage parents to have play dates with all children contributing a few toys to the mix. Remind parents that children can retrieve objects for themselves without parent assistance.
