Observe the child in dramatic play with other children.

Elicitation Strategy

“Let’s pretend to be a family. Who wants to be a mommy or daddy or sister or brother? What should we do?” Let the children establish the hierarchy and actions.

Behavior Observed

The child may not take the lead, but wait to be assigned a role.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage parents to observe and/ or participate in their children’s dramatic play to get insights into how they view roles in the family.
