Observe the child during the different classroom activities of the day.
The adult can play a simple board game with the child. During the game talk about the rules of the game and the rules at home, school, and other places. How are they the same? Different?
The child understands that he behaves differently in the classroom and other situations, such as home, church, the playground, etc.
Encourage early childhood educators and parents to talk about how the expectations are different for different situation. Adults often don’t realize that the child is not intending to misbehave, he is just applying different rules that the situation demands in different settings.
