Orients pants correctly and puts on

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child in dramatic play with costumes that have a variety of different clothing and fasteners.

Elicitation Strategy

Have some clothing inside-out. Have pants, coats, shirts, shoes, belts, and so on. Children can exchange roles to wear different outfits.

Behavior Observed

The child independently puts on all types of clothing in the correct orientation.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

The classroom dramatic play area is a great place to observe children’s dressing skills. It is important to provide a variety of different types of clothing, closures, and sizes. This type of practice is more relevant than dolls with different snaps, buttons, and zippers.
