Observe the child looking at two different pattern options.

Elicitation Strategy

Provide the simple black and white pattern and a more complex pattern with color. Hold them up at the same time for the infant to look at.

Behavior Observed

The infant stares longer at the more complex pattern.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

As the vision is refined, the infant comes to prefer more complex patterns. Bright colors are now of interest. Change the mobiles and patterns to include more varied patterns and colors.
