Head steady in supported sitting for 10-15 minutes, back firm

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the infant when supported in a sit on the adult’s lap.

Elicitation Strategy

Hold the infant under the arms in a sitting position, with back straight.

Behavior Observed

The infant sits in a supported position and examines the environment without having to lean his head or body against the parent or other support.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage early childhood educators and parents to spend face-to-face time with the infant sitting on their laps. Infants will let the adult know when they have “had enough.”
