Behavior Observed

The mother reports pressure from the tongue flattened against the nipple to create pressure.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Some mothers have difficulty with the baby latching on and nursing. The infant’s sucking pattern effects the shape of the nipple and the consequent effectiveness of sucking. Help the parent identify needed resources if feeding is a concern.
