Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the infant when she is playing near adults and siblings / others.

Elicitation Strategy

During the peek-a-boo game, the adult can change from a smiling to a sad face.

Behavior Observed

When the adult changes emotional expression, the infant looks confused and works to get the parent to smile.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage parents to use clear facial expressions and inflection with their communication to help the infant understand the emotions associated with the communication.
