Observe the infant drinking from a bottle and cup, and eating soft food.
The adult holds a cup to the infant’s mouth and tips it slightly to allow liquid to go into the mouth.
The infant leans toward the cup and takes one or two swallows from the cup, but liquid runs out of the mouth.
The infant is becoming more involved in eating and drinking. Encourage early childhood educators and parents to give the infant as much control as they can handle.
