Observe an adult and child in face-to-face games and play with toys.
Tell the adult to give the child time to respond without prompting to see if he remembers the actions.
The infant will pull the scarf, put the adult’s hands together, etc. as a communication to continue the game and take a turn.
Turn-taking games are important for building social and communication exchanges. Remind early childhood educators and parents to play frequent give-and-take games and give the child time to initiate their turn. This requires them to remember, but also take the lead in the interaction.
