Sits without support and plays with toys

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child in play on the floor. Either place the child in sit or let the child assume a sitting position.

Elicitation Strategy

When the child is in a sitting position place a toy on the floor out of his reach.

Behavior Observed

The child sits and plays without an external support.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage parents to let children spend time sitting outside of a strapped in seat. Children need to sit unsupported to play, move, and explore to develop their gross motor skills.
