Observe the child in play on the floor. Either place the child in sit or let the child assume a sitting position.
When the child is in a sitting position place a toy on the floor out of his reach.
The child sits and plays without an external support.
Encourage parents to let children spend time sitting outside of a strapped in seat. Children need to sit unsupported to play, move, and explore to develop their gross motor skills.
