Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child in his home or other environment with interesting materials.

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation needed.

Behavior Observed

The infant crawls around looking at and retrieving objects or toys.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage parents to let the infant explore on hands and knees indoors and outside. Children will discover new objects, textures, and smells as they move around from room to room or one outdoor space to another. Explain to parents the importance of infants discovering and retrieving interesting objects. With careful supervision parents can expand the children’s universe by letting them explore and supporting their movement while they learn about how to move their bodies.
