Holds foot out for shoe and socks

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child when getting ready to go outside and when coming in.

Elicitation Strategy

The adult suggests putting on shoes and socks.

Behavior Observed

Infants know where shoes and socks go and hold up a foot in anticipation of putting it on.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

When the child holds out a body part for dressing it is a good sign she is ready to help. Undressing precedes dressing, and the child can help out with each step. After one arm is out of a sleeve, let the child pull the other arm. Pull off the pants except for the last bit. For putting on, the child can pick up an item of clothing and help.
