Elicitation Strategy

Play peek-a-boo with a sibling or friend. Start to call the person’s name to get her to come out. Change people and see if the child switches names.

Behavior Observed

The child calls the siblings name or approximation to get them to appear.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage the adults to have the child help call siblings or others to dinner, to the car to go out, etc. Explain that association of names with specific people helps the child learn individual characteristics of others.
