Observe the child during daily routines and while sharing books with an adult.
Show the child books about animals and take turns making the animal sounds.
The child remembers and associates pictures of animals with the sounds they make.
Encourage early childhood educators and parents to show the child pictures in the book and corresponding items that the child will recognize. For example, the cup, hat, pants, etc. in the picture are the same items on or near the child. Adults can take turns naming and making animal or other sounds when reading books where sounds can be added.
