Behavior Observed

The infant seeks out (or accepts initiations from others) who are similar in size, appearance, and/or play preferences to himself.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Children notice and begin to categorize similarities and differences. This helps them make decisions about with whom they will interact. Early childhood educators and parents are role models for children. The child will join in the play with non-similar children if the adult does so.
