Uses whole arm to make marks

Situations for Observation of Skill

Provide paper and a crayon.

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation needed.

Behavior Observed

The child spontaneously marks on paper and experiments with movements of the crayon in different directions.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Provide places for children to color. They like to make marks anywhere and everywhere! A large paper in a tray provides a boundary. Children of this age like to draw on vertical planes, as they use their whole arm. Give them water and a paint brush to paint a fence. Early childhood educators and parents should also draw and write with the child to provide a model for both drawing and writing.
