Observe the child in play with the parent in the room.

After several minutes of play, ask the parent to leave the room for a minute or two.

The infant will look for the parent, may crawl after the parent, or cry.

Help parents understand the attachment/separation process. The infant still needs the parent for comfort, so they like to know the parent is near. When the parent leaves, the infant becomes unsure and cries. This is just part of the process of the child learning he can be independent and still be fine. As he becomes more comfortable around others, he begins to trust others to care for him as well.
