Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child when the adult asks her to get her coat, shoes, doll, etc. during a daily routine.

Elicitation Strategy

Prompt the adult to ask the child to retrieve some of her belongings.

Behavior Observed

The child responds accurately to requests to retrieve her own belongings.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Explain to parents that helping with daily routines, such as folding laundry, putting away toys, etc. helps children learn the various characteristics of family members. This includes sizes, color preferences, and so on.
