Nests 3 round containers

Situations for Observation of Skill

Bring out the plastic kitchen bowls along with some blocks and observe the child in play with an adult.

Elicitation Strategy

If the child does not spontaneously nest or stack, the adult can model. Give the child time to explore on her own first, however.

Behavior Observed

The child will stack 3 bowls.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Let parents know that plastic kitchen materials and pots and pans make great toys and learning materials. They can be combined with other toys, so the child can explore putting things in and taking them out. Nesting and stacking are both math activities, demonstrating understanding of size and spatial relations.
