Observe the child during daily routines.
No elicitation needed.
Possible observations: Hears footsteps approaching and gets excited. Hears his dog barking, and tries to move toward it. Feels edge of favorite blanket while going to sleep. Calms by rubbing mother’s earlobe or hair. Pats pictures of people or objects he recognizes.
Babies use all senses to learn about the world. They learn the patterns associated with their favorite people and come to recognize their favorite objects by sight, touch, smell, or sound.
