Copies patterns using sounds or physical movements, with adult prompting and guidance

Situations for Observation of Skill

Sing songs and finger plays with child.

Elicitation Strategy

Pick a simple song or finger play. Do it with the child and observe the child’s actions and listen to her sounds.

Behavior Observed

The child will imitate the movements, rhythm, and sounds (if not all of the words) of the song and finger play.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage parents to do these types of activities often with the child. Give them ideas of where they can find others online. Children love the interaction and will improve fine motor control, memory, rhythmic patterns and the sequence of a verbal pattern.
