Observe the child with a rattle.
The infant may vocalize independently, but may be more vocal with an adult model. The adult should provide wait time after vocalizing.
The infant may coo and shake his arms.
Encourage parents to play rhythmic music and move the infant’s hand with the beat. Then release the child’s hand and see if the child repeats the action. Music may encourage children to move.
