Observe the child on his stomach moving into all fours, then into sit.
Place a desired toy in front of the child when the child in on hands-and-knees.
Once on all fours, the child will reach for the toy, supporting herself in a tripod position.
Children have different patterns of movement, so note differences, but if movement is functional, that is what is important. Let early childhood educators and parents know that they can support the development of motor skills by giving the child lots of opportunities and reasons to move. Encourage them to motivate children to move by using objects or toys they want in different positions.
